more about us

About Us

We are a Baptist Church located in King Williams Town, South Africa. We're a member of the Baptist Union of Southern Africa

Our History

Bethany Emmanuel has a rich heritage which impacted the history of Baptists in South Africa, as you can see from the many pictures in the church museum. We hope to include more information of our history soon but in the interim, click on this link to access an article written by Dr Jack Whytock about Carl Gutsche, one of the early Baptists who worked in our area.

What we believe

Christ as the Head of the church

The Church recognises Jesus Christ as its supreme Head and undertakes to manage its affairs according to New Testament teaching, believing that, as the Body of Christ, it is equipped by His Spirit to act, decide and direct

Our Ministries

sunday services

Our church meets on Sundays for our weekly worship services. Come as you are!

teleios

Teleios is a school from Grade R to Grade 9. The names means to be complete and that is what we strive to for the children to leave the school as individuals understanding who they are.

At Teleios Christian School, we cater for all learners, especially those who need to be built up socially, emotionally and academically. It is our wish to nurture children in a happy, Christian atmosphere, where we take seriously the teaching of God’s word as a rule for our lives. Our ethos, discipline and work ethic are based around the joy of our Christian faith and our desire to do everything to glorify God

busy bees

Busy Bees strives to make use of playful activities to gradually build on the necessary skills every child needs to acquire to become School Ready.

youth

We strive to build relationships with the youth of King through various ministry opportunities. On Fridays you can find us playing games and worshiping at the church from 7-9pm, and we host different bible studies through the week for those that want to dig deeper into scripture together so we can build our lives on Jesus.

Follow us on Instagram at @bebcyouth for chances to win prizes, to follow us in scripture readings and to get sneak peaks on what’s in store for future events and activities.

bethany kids

Children are the life of our church. We want to see the children of King Williams Town passionate about Jesus.

Friday evenings are spent playing games, singing, dancing and digging deeper into God’s Word and growing our faith.

On Sunday mornings you’ll find us learning more about God and His plan for the World.

Project dorcas

A partnership between the Womens Department of the BU, CWJC North Carolina and Bethany.

We exist for the purpose of providing training, hope, encouragement, and spiritual development to underprivileged women, helping them to take control of their lives and become responsible for their families.

We seek to provide mentors for each client who will listen to her pain and her hopes, pray for her, walk through each phase of planned development with her, through Bible Study, and through the ups and downs of her journey.

We will encourage each client, mentor, and support staff. We will develop a Christian unity that is needed to give a positive witness to the world around us.

womens ministry

It is the desire of the Women’s ministry of the Bethany Emmanuel Baptist Church to encourage women to become faithful followers of Jesus Christ.

Our goal is to provide a variety of opportunities for your spiritual growth, for building close relationships, sharing your faith with others and exercising your spiritual gifts.

Through studying God’s Word, praying together, serving side by side, and sharing life experiences you will develop a deeper relationship with Christ and a closer relationship with other women. We personally invite you to be involved in the Women’s Ministry.

Our Ministry team

Senior Pastor

Hi, my name is Reuben Ihlenfeldt and have been at Bethany Emmanuel since November 2008. I previously pastored the Moira Baptist Church in Mooiplaas from 1990 to 1992 and Grace Baptist Church, Kempton Park until 2008.

I am passionate about missions, children's ministry and the church being relevant to the community and being a community. I am currently involved with the oversight of the Teleios school. The last few years, l have prepared the Bible challenge/Scripture Exams study material and assisted the team with the administration. I am particularly passionate about preaching and teaching from Gods Word.

As a Baptist, I am a believer in the interdependence between local churches and participate and assist with the local Baptist network and have served in National leadership positions.
